How to use Streaming Video
It is especially true for those new to computers who may be unfamiliar with how it works or what the various components do.
Streaming video files are hosted at the orginating server and are not saved locally - so no need to remember where a saved file is stored.
Many times a computer will pick a default location to store a downloaded file, and if the individual does not explicitly change the save location, they may be confused later as to where the saved file went. So streaming video is much more appealing.
With streaming video, the viewer needs only to find the website hosting the streaming video using his browser and possibly a search engine or favorites list. From there, they will be able to click play on the streaming video player that is being used. The file will then begin to play for immediate viewing. The user can usually pause and rewind the file just like when playing a downloaded video.
Also, since the video content file is streamed continuously from the source, it usually takes almost no time to begin watching the video. This compares favorably with downloading prior to viewing, since the download of a large video file can take a very long time. So, streaming video saves delay and frustration. Once the video has been played, it can be played again and it will still not take up any more time than is necessary to connect with the host that is streaming the file.
In order to use streaming video, the viewer does need to be connected to the internet the whole time, since this is where the content file is coming from. This is another difference between downloading a video clip and playing a streaming video clip. To view a downloaded video, the user does not need to remain connected to the internet after the video content file is downloaded. They will need to be connected during the file download, but after that process is complete, they can view their file "off-line", i.e. without internet connection.
These are the basic differences between streamed and downloaded video, and the pros and cons of how each may be enjoyed.
