Where to Find Streaming Video

Where can we find video clips, TV shows or movies to view? Simple - look on the internet with a browser search engine such as Google.

Many websites offer streaming video for immediate viewing online, or else video files for download and subsequent local viewing off-line.

To find them brush up on the keywords for a Google seach. Start with a keyphrase for your topic of interest, add "streaming video" and go from there. Narrow the search with more keywords. Combine keyphrases with parentheses and plus signs. Use the minus sign before keywords to exclude stuff you are not interested in. You will find the time spent learning to search efficiently is immensely rewarding in results achieved.

It is up to the individual to trade off between the advantage of a local archive copy and the delay of downloading prior to first viewing. My personal strategy is to view a content sample via immediate streaming video, and if I like it, download the whole movie to a local archive where I can view it whenever I choose without further reliance on my sometimes erratic internet connection.

Having a choice between streaming and downloading simply opens up convenience and efficiency tailored to individual circumstances. Where I live in the country, bandwidth is limited and power cuts are frequent due to electrical storms - so I favor download. In the big city with fast and reliable broadband, the pendulum tilts toward streaming which offers immediate viewing gratification and big savings in local disk storage. Let's not forget that video files can be BIG.

Unfortunately, most streaming video sites often do not offer the option of download. However, for those in the know, this is no problem because software is available to caputure the images viewed while streaming. Using such video capture software we get the best of both worlds - immediate viewing access plus a local archive copy for subsequent off-line viewing whenever we choose.
