Why streaming video on blogs is popular
Firstly, the purpose of a blog is to share information with others. Most people visiting the blog are fairly literate, but in some cases they are not. When they visit the blog, they can get some of the information from the video and retain a more dependable grasp on the concept than if they were constrained to reading alone.
Secondly, many people do not have time during their busy day to commit to reading. It is difficult to impossible to read and perform other actions at the same time.
However, many people manage to watch television and do other things at the same time - for example, my wife always watches TV while ironing. The same principle applies to viewing streaming videos on blogs.
Whether the individual is just doing other things on the computer, or they are actually away from the computer but watching the video as if it were the television, the viewer is able to multi-task in a way that they would be unable to do without the video on the blog. Such multi-tasking eases a busy life in a productive way.
Some people do not read as fast as others. However, we all view things at the same speed. When someone has difficulty to read fast, they may be less inclined to work on reading a blog on a topic they may otherwise be interested in following. In order to make up for this, many webmasters post streaming videos on their blog sites in order to capture the attention of visitors for whom video is an attractive alternative to reading.
If a person sees a video that they are interested in, they may be more likely to read the blog that coincides with it, even if they are a slow reader, because they enjoyed the video and want to know more. Obviously, this is less likely in absense of a video to draw them into the blog initially. Instead, a person may merely skim the blog or skip it entirely.
Our attention span is limited in the face of a flood of information and distractions. Unless we make a conscious effort to stop and observe something, we are unlikely to do so. Streaming video is effective in capturing attention and webmasters are learning to exploit it accordingly.
